The initial reaction of most people who hear that I support PETA is “Why?” In all fairness, it is a good question to ask. The answer I give is typically that the goals and values of PETA happen to coincide with my own views on animal treatment. Humans and animals both exist on this planet as living beings. From a young age, I was taught to value the life of all things or small. The ideology that sticks with me is “Would you want to be treated that way?” If the answer is no, then you should not be doing it to anything else. The Golden Rule that we all learned while growing up applies to more than just our fellow peers, but all living things in life.
Humans and animals share the same body parts and mentality. All species try to thrive and prosper, but that does not mean using other animals just to provide us with clothing or accessories. It is only us who imprisons animals on farms, and feed them for the sole purpose of slaughtering them in the future. The animals in captivity live their entire lives on a farm or field knowing nothing of the fate that awaits them nor the possibilities that could potential exist for them outside of their pens.
Animal cruelty expands to beyond just inside the fences of a farm. It exists just about everywhere you look. There are countless abandoned pets that have been hurt and left behind by owners and end up living shortened lives knowing only pain. In response to this, I chose to adopt a homeless black Labrador named Magic. Just one adoption, however, is insignificant in the big picture and that is why it is necessary for everyone to get behind this because it will only be accomplished with all your help.
