Activism is action towards a specific goal in just a few words. In our world, activism has a much looser definition; with simply liking a page on Facebook or retweeting something counts. It is important that people understand the difference between activism and slacktivism; just donating money or sharing similar beliefs is latter, something that many people seem to overlook.
The only way to bring about a change is to actively fight for it, campaign for it, protest for it, do not take no for an answer. The process to change is a slow and harsh one, not just in the aspect of activism, but in all things. Spreading awareness and providing monetary value towards a cause is important, but it should not be confused with actually protesting and working towards making a difference with actual man hours.
The use of social media has greatly increased the ability for activist groups to spread awareness to the masses that can then rally protests and further increase awareness by organizing fundraisers. There are thousands of activist groups in the world all fighting to make a change in the world, a change that may never occur, but even so being an activist means that you fight until the end for something you believe in.
